The PHILIPS HF-P 136 TL-D III is a high-frequency electronic ballast from the HF-Performer III range, made for 1 × 36 W TL-D (T8). It replaces the magnetic ballast + starter combination with a single unit: the lamp strikes in under a second, without flicker or hum, and the installation gains roughly a quarter in efficiency.
Its strength is the programmed start: the ballast preheats the electrodes before applying the ignition voltage. That is what lets the lamp take thousands of switching cycles without wearing the cathodes out early — decisive in a room driven by a presence detector, where an ordinary ballast kills tubes within months.
Operation at about 45 kHz, power factor 0.98 at full load, automatic restart after a lamp change, and a stated life of 100,000 hours at 40 °C. Wiring through WAGO 251 terminals: the conductor clips in, no screws. ⚠️ This ballast is not dimmable — dimming requires an HF-R (1-10 V) or HF-Ri (DALI).

Do I keep the starter?
No. Electronic gear handles preheating and ignition itself: the starter comes out of the circuit. When refurbishing a magnetic fitting, also remove the old ballast and the power-factor capacitor.
Can I connect a different lamp wattage?
No — stick exactly to 1 × 36 W TL-D (T8). An HF ballast is calibrated for the wattage it states: a lamp of another wattage will wear quickly, light poorly, or fail to start.
Is it dimmable?
No, this is a fixed-output version. Dimming requires an HF-R (1-10 V) or HF-Ri (DALI) ballast — a different unit, to be matched with the corresponding dimmer.
