Warm white in the dining room, neutral in the kitchen
In the dining room, bar and bedrooms, warm white 2700 to 3000 K (codes /827, /830) creates the ambience. In the kitchen and stockroom, neutral white 4000 K (/840) helps people work.

Beautiful colours on the plate
For dishes, display cases and buffets, choose a colour rendering of 90 or more (codes /930, /942): food keeps its natural colours.

Never an ordinary bulb in an oven
An oven needs a lamp built for heat, 300 °C or 500 °C depending on the model: neither an ordinary bulb nor an LED will survive. Also replace the window glass if it is cracked or clouded.

Keep spare lamps
A lamp always fails mid-service. Keep spares of each model, and change a whole row of spotlights at once: the light stays even.
Reading your lamp's reference
Everything is printed on the glass or the base. These three details are enough to find the right lamp.
Voltage and wattage
A 12 V spotlight runs on a transformer: it cannot be replaced by a 230 V spotlight. Keep the same wattage too.
Colour and rendering
1st digit = colour rendering (8 = CRI 80, 9 = CRI 90); the next two = shade (27 = 2700 K, 30 = 3000 K, 40 = 4000 K).
Base
GU5.3 and G53 = 12 V pin spotlights; GU10 = 230 V twist-lock spotlight; G9 and E14 = small 230 V lamps, common in ovens and wall lights.

How do I find my oven bulb?
Note the base (E14, G9, GU5.3…), the wattage and the temperature printed on the bulb, or the oven's make and model, and send us a photo: we will tell you the compatible lamp.
Can I put LEDs in my dining-room spotlights?
Yes, in most cases: there are LEDs with the same base and beam angle as your halogens. With a 12 V transformer or a dimmer, check their compatibility: we can advise you. In an oven, however, never use LEDs.
