No. A 1149 mm T5 HE tube requires an electronic ballast (ECG): it will not strike on a ferromagnetic starter ballast. Check the fitting's rating plate before ordering.
Can it replace a T8 tube?
No: the T5 (Ø 16 mm, 1149 mm, G5 base) is shorter and thinner than a T8 (Ø 26 mm, 1200 mm, G13 base). The two are not interchangeable — check your fitting's exact type.
830 or 840 — which to choose?
830 = warm white 3000 K, cosy atmosphere (hospitality, reception). 840 = neutral white 4000 K, working light (offices, retail). Colour rendering is identical (CRI 80-89).
